STRATEGIC
ADVISORY SERVICES

Work with us to accelerate your fleet’s performance

Our Strategic Advisory Services team can help leverage and improve fleet management outcomes for your organisation.

As part of Element Fleet Management (the world’s largest fleet company), we can access global fleet insights to offer our customers best-in-class solutions to cost saving identification.

Our fleet advisors can work with you to understand your organisation’s goals and your day-to-day fleet operations.

This includes:

  • A full deep-dive consulting service, or we can discuss the type of advisory support that best suits your organisation’s goals, for the most productive, efficient, and sustainable operation possible
  • An analysis of all aspects of your fleet’s performance including costs, vehicle efficiency, and driver safety
  • Baselining your current fleet costs, processes, and policies
  • Benchmarking your current performance against comparable fleets
  • Productivity and cost savings recommendations, ensuring your fleet is fit-for-purpose, as well as meeting your sustainability goals
  • Consideration of your budget and review of operating expenses (op-ex) versus capital expenses (cap-ex) when determining vehicle selection and ownership structures
  • Assistance in budgeting for fleet related costs
  • A review your fleet policy and current roles and responsibilities with your organisation to support effective fleet operations

With this understanding we’ll then identify data-driven opportunities and key strategies to optimise your entire fleet.

Since 2015 our fleet advisors have identified ~$100 million per year for our customers in Australia and New Zealand.

Strategic Advisory Services

How it works

1. Understand and benchmark - Understand your strategic and operational priorities. Analyse current fleet policy, employee and vehicle roles, and operational requirements and processes. Identify potential cost savings for: vehicle selection, and indicative total cost of ownership analysis. 2. Validate our assumptions - Collaborative stakeholder sessions to validate our assumptions and assess impact of change. Recalibrate our key hypothesis, insights, recommendations, and action plans. 3. Recommend key strategy - Finalise the overall strategy and execution plan. Agree on an implementation plan and key milestones. 4. Implement, plan and track - Ongoing fleet reviews to track progress against objectives. Tailored, tracking, measurment and performance reporting. Keep you informed of market insights and emerging industry trends. 1. Understand and benchmark - Understand your strategic and operational priorities. We’ll use our suite of industry-leading analytical tools and our knowledge of fleet management to assess your business’ requirements against industry trends, and peer-company benchmarking data.

Case study – Driver behaviour and speeding (telematics)

The challenge

  • A high number of speeding events indicated anecdotally
  • Business and safety risks due to a lack of driver behaviour visibility and supporting processes to track, measure and control driver behaviour

Our approach

  • Installed telematics units in tool of trade vehicles
  • All drivers were aware they were being monitored
  • Captured telematics data for 3 months following installation
  • Formed baselines and understood behaviours
  • Communicated findings without personally identifying drivers
  • Delivered in accordance with privacy principles
  • Implemented driver behaviour reporting to drivers and their line managers
  • Highlighted instances of low-level speeding which is still a risk
  • Supported process to continually monitor

Delivered outcomes

  • Increased driver safety by addressing driver behaviours
  • 63% improvement in driver behaviour within 90 days
  • 77% decrease in speeding events over the longer-term (reduction in harsh acceleration, harsh braking, harsh cornering and an 85% reduction in speeding events > 20% over the posted speed limit)
  • Secondary benefit of reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions

Case study – CO2 reduction and tracking

The challenge

  • A strong customer mandate to reduce CO2 emissions
  • 200+ vehicle fleet and over 80% with high CO2 emissions
  • We identified and recommended ‘best practice’ solutions for vehicles options, features, carbon emissions, whole of life costs, and guidance on HR impacts, vehicle policy and change management
  • Established ongoing support with CO2 reporting and forecasting to promote the low carbon message within the organisation to build support for a transition

Our approach

  • Conducted a full fleet review to understand vehicle roles and operational requirements, conduct policy review, and gap assessment
  • Discussed possible ways to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Completed a review and analysis of ‘whole-of-life’ costs, vehicle features, CO2 comparison, and vehicle replacement options – balancing carbon emissions and cost reduction
  • Provided our data-driven cost reduction forecasts
  • Delivered a customised implementation plan
  • Instituted tailored tracking, measurement (replacements, spend, policy compliance, driver behaviour, fuel usage, carbon emissions utilisation, vehicle idling monitoring via telematics)
  • Delivered strategic reviews to learn, action, and refine

Delivered outcomes

  • Data-based evidence as the catalyst for change
  • $2.7m+ in cost savings and 2,400 tons in carbon emissions identified to reduce over 5 years
  • Customer transitioning to hybrids as an interim step towards a low carbon future
  • Consolidated fleet management, reduced admin, complete “one stop” digital control and visibility
